Summary: In these pages of the novel we are introduced to mot of the characters. We meet the family, that includes Anke, the main character who was named after her mother, her sister Yaicha who was named after a song (pousette-dart band), her brother Darren named after a dead dead friend of thier parents, the father and the mother Anne. Then we meet some other characters that include friends like the coach, Roy, of the volley ball team, Angeline a family friend, Rona a tenth grader and Jed a senior. In the first pages we enter t he daily routine of this family. "When the garage door goes up he's home. We close up conversation and scuttle off like crabs each to our room-- Shut the door. Shut the door.Shut the door."(pg.4) Then later we enter more into Anke's social life. we find out that she has started to play on the volley ball team and made, she has a friend Rona who is one grade above her who she met within Volleyball and we find out that she has a senior firend, Jed, who she sleeps on the coach with after school and at times kisses. A more inner family social life involves the problems with her siblings and opinion of her family. Like when she makes a photo album with no pictures of her siblings or father and only pictures of her mother and her.
Quote: ""there are only pictures of you and mom!"(sister says) and i say to myself, Exactly." pg 66
Reaction: This quote shows how Anke has a closer relationship to her mother than everyone else in the house. She isn't exactly close to her mother but out of all her family thats who she prefers. Her sister and brother think Anke is a waste of space her father is a hyprocrite and her mother at times can be good to her.
